The New York Phoenix is a newsletter, newspaper and web site dedicated to the recovery and rebuilding of New York after the tragic events of September 11th. It will provide a means of communication, reporting, discussion, comment and analysis to assist in and support the recovery and rebuilding process.

The New York Phoenix will:

  • provide a forum for all who have views to express on the recovery and rebuilding process;
  • seek information and views from the most concerned, involved, knowledgeable and talented individuals and institutions;
  • provide a news digest and summary as well as a calendar of events;
  • provide a guide on where and how to get help and information and where and how to give help and participate in the recovery and rebuilding process;
  • provide a link, connection and guide to as many of the myriad sources of news and information as now exist as it possibly can;
  • report on and get information from the many communities that are a part of the recovery and rebuilding process;
  • get the best and most articulate thinkers, writers, planners, government officials, businessmen, members of the professions, educators, artists, religious leaders and just plain citizens to report and comment on the recovery and rebuilding process as it goes forward.

The Phoenix will supplement, not duplicate, coverage by existing press and other media. Its focus and service base are intended to give it a niche not currently filled by other parts of the media. It will be covering lower Manhattan -- the financial district and residential community, of course; but also all of Downtown (Tribeca, Soho, Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Chinatown, the Lower East Side) which has been profoundly affected by the events of September 11th and their aftermath and which will be an important part of the rebuilding process. More broadly speaking it will cover all city, state, national and international developments which affect the rebuilding process. It will deal with developments in the financial community, small business and big business, labor, the arts, educational and cultural institutions, the media, real estate, architecture, planning, media, entertainment, restaurants, transportation, schools and churches, synagogues and mosques.It will try to track the billions that are flowing into the building process from insurance, government, non governmental organizations, business and private real estate developers.

The New York Phoenix is intended to both report on and provide a forum for the various groups and individuals that are helping to steer the recovery and rebuilding process.

The New York Phoenix is intended to both report on and provide a forum for the various groups and individuals that are helping to steer the recovery and rebuilding process -- the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the City's and State's Economic Development Corporations, the Alliance for Downtown, city, state and federal government agencies, legislatures and executive branches, community boards; civic groups such as the New York City Partnership, the Real Estate Board, the Municipal Arts Society, the Regional Plan Association, the Association for a Better New York and the alliances they and others have formed such as the Civic Alliance, New York/New Visions, Labor Community Activist Network, Rebuild Downtown Our Town (RDot) and Imagine New York.

It is not intended at this time that The New York Phoenix will make a profit. If revenues exceed expenses that excess will be donated to appropriate charities, organizations or agencies participating in the redevelopment process. That policy will continue at least for the next three years.
